UPDATE: Jim Webb Removes Himself from VP Race

In a surprising development, Virginia Senator Jim Webb announced that :

“Last week I communicated to Sen. Obama and his presidential campaign my firm intention to remain in the United States Senate, where I believe I am best equipped to serve the people of Virginia and this country. Under no circumstances will I be a candidate for vice president.”

In my view, this is another way of saying that he was offered the position and opted to decline. A perspicacious decision I must say. I imagine Webb realized that he would be running into a buzzsaw in this election in regards to women’s rights and his history of glorifying the confederacy. It would be better for his political future — should he choose to run for President some day — to acquire more of a record as a Senator that he could use to combat some of those charges, particularly if he could find his way to support some issues important to women.

So now that the candidate I selected as the likely VP for Obama has taken himself out of the race, who does Obama go with now? Well, I’m going to bet that he goes with Joe Biden.  I still believe Brian Schweitzer is the best candidate, but the highly respected Joe Biden is a safe, if not sexy, choice. If you haven’t noticed, the Obama campaign has been trying to portray Obama as a more mainstream, conventional candidate. Joe Biden would do nothing but buttress that image. Plus, Joe Biden would clean up in the Vice-Presidential debate just about anyone John McCain could produce.

  1. I like the article, very interesting about Web. So who is going to be Obama’s VP? I keep hearing Bayh mentioned. I dont think Bayh is the best choice though. I think the Best Choice was Clark. I think its unfortunate that Obama seems to have taken him off the table as a Vp. I really feel Clark was and is Obamas best pick for VP., I have signed serveral Petitions Supporting Clark for VP, I have also signed a Petition asking Obama to defend his Comments, I think he has been treated a bit unfairly by the media. If any one reading the blog wants to support Clark you can sign the Petition On Veep Peek, I think it just went up today. the link is http://www.VeepPeek.com They have another Petition for Clark at http://www.theObamaPlan.com I just dont understand if it isnt Clark who else it could be? Maybe Kerry would be Ok.
